RARE
SOUTH CAROLINA RECTANGULAR CONFEDERATE PLATE
Recently acquired excavated South Carolina rectangular sword belt plate circa 1840.
As you can tell from the photos this plate has a heavy patina and
has not been out of the ground long.
The twelve spears at the base of the palmetto tree represent South
Carolina’s sister colonies while the fallen oak represents the
mother country, England. This
buckle is pictured as Plate 346 in Steve Mullinax's book (First
Edition). Of the South Carolina panel plates you see the other
type panel plate (one that looks like the round shoulder plate)
fairly routinely but you hardly ever see this one offered for sale.

NICE NONEXCAVATED US CARTRIDGE BOX
PLATE
This nonexcavated US cartridge box has a
nice patina and unlike many nondug US cartridge boxes offered for sale, this one was
clearly actually used in the war. Great piece of Civil War
history for the money.
